1 Introduction

The present selection concept defines the criteria and the process of selection for the next upcoming representative team event of the National Elite Team.

At the EMWTCQ every team match consists of 5 matches (3 singles & 2 doubles disciplines) 

Swiss Badminton sends a minimum of 4 women / 4 men and a maximum of 8 women / 8 men to the championships. All depending on the financial capacity. 

4 Selection 

The selection aims to provide the strongest team that can achieve the performance goals of Swiss Badminton. 

The final selection decision will be made by the selection committee of Swiss Badminton. 

The final selection decision will be communicated in week 46.

5 Selection Criteria 

  • Part of the National Elite Team
  • Coaches Opinion about:
    • Commitment
    • Health
    • Consistency of international performance
    • Development of individual results
    • Potential of success

Exceptional selections for athletes outside the National Elite Team can be taken into consideration if the Elite Squat doesn’t provide enough players for a competitive team line up.

6 Selection Committee 

The selection committee consists of: 

  • Coaching team
  • Head of Performance sport in the central committee
  • Head of Youth

7 Communication

It is the task of the National Coaches to communicate the final selection to all the players of the National Elite Team verbally three weeks prior to the beginning of the event.

Selection process for representative team events of the Elite National Team

This is the predefined process of administration for all the representative team events of the Elite National Team. 

The major representative team events are: 

European Mixed Team Championships (and its qualification), European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships, Sudirman Cup, Thomas & Uber Cup

1 Decision if Swiss Badminton participates at the event or not 

Appr. 6 months prior to the event or when Swiss Badminton receives the “Key Dates” from Badminton Europe or BWF. 

The decision depends on whether SB can present a competitive team and the available budget.

2 Communication to the players if Swiss Badminton sends a team or not

3 Inscription of the team

4 Final selection decision 

3 Weeks before the event.

5 Oral communication of the selection decision to the players
